I love my job! Ever since second grade, I have wanted to be an elementary music teacher. I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to share my love of making and learning about music with my students.
I began my formal music studies with piano lessons in elementary school. I continued to study piano through college. I sang in school and church choirs and played violin in orchestras from elementary school through college. Following graduation from Normal (IL) Community High School, I studied Music Education at Goshen (IN) College and earned a B.A. I taught elementary general music in Elmhurst Public School District 205 from 1991 to 2004. I began teaching at John C. Myers and Fulks Run Elementary Schools (RCPS) in 2004 and in 2018 moved to JCMES only. I hold an M.A. in music education from James Madison University and certifications in Dalcroze, Orff, and World Music Drumming. Besides piano and violin, I play guitar, recorders, folk harp, and harpsichord. Leading congregational singing is another way I am fortunate to share my love of music with others.
Music is certainly a huge part of my life but I have some other loves as well. My husband Jim is my favorite musician. My son Alex is who I go to with my questions about engines, and my daughter Lena has taught me to appreciate weather and reptiles in ways I never imagined. I enjoy cooking and preserving food. And my newest hobby is knitting socks. Finally, my days feel unfinished if I don't have a chance to read.
